4 Day Private Desert Tour From Fez To Marrakech Itinerary

Departure from Fes is at 8 o’clock. We’ll travel through Azrou, where you can see Barbary apes in the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. Lunch will be in Midelt, known as “the apple capital,” situated at the foot of Ayachi Mountain. After lunch, we’ll continue over the Tizi-n-Talremt pass and through the Ziz Valley, famous for its palm trees and the extensive oasis. Along the road, you’ll see countless “ksars,” small villages of individual houses. Our journey will then take us through Er Rachidia and on to Erfoud, known for its date festival and fossils. Upon reaching the bivouac in Erg Chebbi, you will be welcomed with a glass of tea. You’ll have time to explore the dunes before witnessing a breathtaking sunset. Dinner will be served, followed by an evening of music and a night in a nomad tent.

If you wake up early, you can watch the spectacular sunrise over the dunes, where the colors and shadows create a mesmerizing scene. After breakfast, you have the option for a camel ride lasting a couple of hours or less, depending on your preference. We’ll then head towards Tinghir and the Todgha Gorges for lunch. The road takes us through Tinjdad and the Todgha Valley, offering plenty of opportunities for walks along the river, through the gardens, or up the road on the other side of the gorges. Later, we’ll continue to the Dades Valley and the Dades Gorges, where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel or kasbah.

After breakfast, we’ll start the day with a walk in the Dades Gorges. Then, we’ll get back on the road and head towards Ouarzazate. Our journey will take us off-road along the Boutarar piste, where we’ll visit Berber nomads in their caves and share a glass of tea with them. Next, we’ll travel through the Valley of the Roses, renowned for its Rose Festival in May. This area is famous for producing high-quality oils, creams, and soaps. We’ll stop to visit the kasbahs of Skoura, including the well-known Kasbah Amredil. Upon arrival in Ouarzazate, you’ll stay in a charming riad or guest house.

After breakfast, our journey continues to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its appearance in numerous Hollywood blockbusters like Kingdom of Heaven and Gladiator. It’s not only the most famous Kasbah in Morocco but also one of the most visited attractions in the entire country. From there, we’ll travel to Telouet along a recently asphalted road, offering stunning views of the lush green valley below. Telouet, nestled amidst the mountains, holds historical significance as the former seat of the last Pasha of Marrakesh, El Glaoui. It once controlled the highest pass in Africa, Tizi-n-Tichka. As the afternoon draws to a close, we’ll arrive in Marrakesh, having traversed the highest pass in North Africa.
